Okay I was playing around with photoshop and looking at some of those tutorials and stuff and I came up with this:

I'd get started with the tuts to learn some basic effects and stuff. GFX Design is something learned over time my child.
As for that tag, if that bg is smudged then I can pretty much say that it's good smudging for first :D

One piece of advice I would have would be to save your finished works as .png rather than .jpg. JPEG tends to lower the quality of the image, so it's bad for any sort of artwork.

It's better, you have blending and effects. I don't like the bevel border though, detrects fromo the piece. Keep going and stay away from text

Yes, a lot of beginner tutorials have text, and most of them suck. Text isn't about branding your piece, it's about adding something to it in a creative way. You need to get the basics down before understanding text placement/effects and even if you need it.

Oh okay. Most of the tutorials don't have basics and stuff, they just tell you what to do. What are some of the basics?
