Otherwise, not really. Dave banned too many people back in 2008, and a year later along came a bunch of over-zealous Super Mods to replace Dave.
The community is currently recovering from the backlashes of having a terrible staff body for years. Like I said, the last month has been more active than any I've seen in a long time. I can go to Page 3 in the Latest Posts and find topics posted in this morning...something I haven't seen in a long time.
I have Forum Games! blocked from Latest Posts, for the record.
I thought the same thing, Nikki. Eventually when all of the older members move on, and the newer members become older members, the place will not be as much fun anymore, just because the number of people who actively post and contribute will be down tremendously. I can't really speak from a teams perspective, but I think things will start to die down, simply because of our relatively small member base. On the forums and teams at least, not the main site.
This is actually a good topic to discuss, i haven't discussed it, and Julian and I can probably get a good 9-10 pages out of this. /nottobrag
It's not bragging. It's the truth. We kicked some butt with our posts last week. Three or four different topics got five pages of posts thanks to just us. And sphynxx eventually. Now we just need to convince others to get active.
This site has never been overly active. Not even in the good years of '06 and '07 (those are the good years in my opinion). But the activity now is, obviously, very, very low. Though, like Volke said, these last two months have picked up a little in activity.
I don't think the site will ever -die- until the main admins, like Rich, decide to leave it. Once it isn't managed anymore. But until then, I'm sure there will be a few people who will always come back to post. Even if it's only once a week.
Forums and message boards as a whole are on their way out. As are cheat codes for games. I believe that's part of the reason Rich has been moving the site in this new direction with Guides Videos and News. There's only a handful of current gen games that even have cheats. Though I don't think the main site will go anywhere soon. People will always need help, and it doesn't hurt that SC is already very well established.
Cheats being used less and less, plus the fact that this site hasn't ever been used much for cheats, even when they were popular. According to that survey a week or two ago, at least. Very few people actually got help from this site when it came to games.
Only the big, big forums that everyone knows are sill even halfway active. All the minor ones, such as here, are slowly dying. But I don't think they'll fully die for a good while, yet.
Well now with Facebook and Twitter etc becoming so popular, people don't feel the need to talk to random strangers on the internet. They can talk to their real friends. It's nothing wrong with the site itself, just a change in the mindset of it's users. I think many videogame site's forums are getting less active. Even IGN, probably the biggest name in the game, isn't as active as it was a few years ago. Mainly just a few really active boards there.
And even the people who do enjoy talking to random strangers on the internet - things like Facebook and Twitter are still easier, and even funner, to do that.

Convince. Torture. Whats the difference?
Hopefully the site will get more active during the summer, and the few members we do get will decide to stay and eventually it'll get more active. It's wishful thinking, but this is my favorite place to come and i want to see it active again.

It's crazy, but insanely annoying, to see the "Most Recent Member" thing at the bottom of the Forum Homepage change multiple times a day - but never see any of the new members post. I don't understand why they make a new account - I mean... there's nothing here that -requires- an account, other than posting in the forums, is there?

Yeah to spam on the forums.
Aside from the joking, i'm guessing most people try to do something on the site and the pop-up comes up that says that they should become a member, and i'm guessing they don't know it isn't required and become a member anyways.

You guys sure do like each other. And going back to the new members not posting issue, I'm betting most, or at least a majority of them don't actually want to use this site as a way of communicating with others (because you have Facebook, twitter and the lot) they just see it as a way to ask questions and get some cheats, it is after all called supercheats
