Hey guys, in case you didn't know, I'm the official youngest member on this site because I'm 10 years old and I'm new here so please can you add me as a friend so you can introduce me properly to the site with all your knowledge.

I'm sorry Marnie, but you have to be at least 13 years old to post on these forums. I'll have to ban you until your 13th birthday. If you can post or message me the date of your 13th birthday I'll arrange for you to be unbanned on that day. It isn't my rule, it's the law.

That law stinks. I wonder how old the posters in the "friend code" forums are?

I know but there's nothing I can do about it. A lot of our members joined underage. The problem is when you post that you're under 13. I know that in the past there was some form you could have your parent fill out and send to Rich, but you'll have to go through him for info on that.

How do those Disney sites operate?

They aren't forums. If you're under 13 you're free to browse the site and forums. You just can't post.

Is that like some government law?

This is done for your own safety and privacy. We cannot collect information from persons aged under 13 due to the introduction of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). While there are provisions in the act to allow us to accept registrations from persons under 13, we also feel that due to the live nature of the Super Cheats message board the material may sometimes not be appropriate to be seen by people under the age of 13.

Well I guess that slows the sites growth.

Probably for the better. I've literally wanted this site to die a few times, just to save it the pain of having more immature, 'unable to have an actual discussion' members joining it.

Novus - You joined when you were 11 so be glad you weren't banned for 1-2 years.

I really hate the law where members under 13 have to be banned for years. There should be a 1 week trial to see if the member is mature or not. I doubt Marine will ever view the site again. But I understand it's an American law and SC could get into trouble if they break it.

What if you just never say your age?

That's what Novus must've done. I said my age because I didn't know about the 13 rule.

I am neither happy nor unhappy about it. It was nine years ago - I am completely apathetic. I did join before I was legally allowed, as with I would guess the majority of members that have joined here (at least, those that joined back then). But we were also not dumb enough to announce that we weren't proper age.

The law is completely logical, and isn't based off of the 'maturity' of a person - everyone has a different idea of what 'maturity' actually is. It's based off of what would be considered proper age for a person to interact with a complete stranger with the potential risk of giving out personal information.

Honestly, considering it's America, the age could easily be increased, since American's seem to be complete idiots the majority of the time. xD

Plus these days kids spend a ton of time on the internet.

I will come back on the site if you this are on in 2 years.
