How did you find your (I don't know) religion?

Through 13 years of Catholic education. The more I learnt about religion, the less of it I believed, until I reached a point where I could no longer justify sustaining a belief and conceded that I no longer believed a god exists.

What were the defining points of the Catholic religion that lead you to question God's existence? What do you base your current belief that there is no God on? Were there certain events in your life that lead you to this, or plot holes in the holy text?

From an atheist point of view, how do you see the Catholic and Protestant groups? What differences, high points, and low points do you see in what they believe?

Knowing what it was to once be faithful, how has your outlook on life changed? Is it depressing to believe that this is it? There's nothing more to life than a dull suffering? Do you see death as game over? And in that same point;

I personally don't agree with the Catholic Church but I have agreed not to discuss religion.

Browsing through the library I came across a dusty old book. Not a bad story, though a little far-fetched. It was called 'The Bible' and was based on a true story. I was in the balance for quite some time, but then I was informed that another word for The Bible is 'Gospel'.

So it is all true.

Are you an atheist like me? As in, I do not respect these beliefs, however I certainly respect people's rights to have those beliefs.

Or you completely against, as in, there's no way Noah had 2 of every species of spider in that damn boat?

Yes it's extremely depressing. When I was young I thought we would all live forever in heaven. The fact that is depressing to think that that might not exist is probably one of the reasons so many people are religious which is not a bad thing really.

It's hard enough to find motivation without the spectre of death pretty much everywhere. Christianity is so convenient when raising these questions, too convenient in fact because it answers all of them. I really wish I was Christian again but in some ways I never really was since I was like 10.

I have my doubts about pure atheism itself. There are a few unanswered questions, like what is consciousness? Scientist still can't even prove it exists yet but we can all atest to having it, whatever "it" is. There's a theory that consciousness is universal, IE even the smallest particle is somewhat conscious.
