Great Britain second in the medal chart? That little island in Europe is having a great Olympics! I wonder if the Olympic commitee clamping down on cheating has anything to do with it. Normally Russia and China are at the top along with USA.
Gold is all that matters. Forget all this nonsense about just happy to be competing in the Olympics, all those athletes dream of winning a gold medal, not silver and not bronze. To most of them the silver medal is for the first loser. The Great Britain long distance jumper Greg Rutherford best emplified this last week when he got a bronze medal and started crying when the BBC interviewed him because he was so disappointed it was not the gold medal.
Yeah there are a few ways to rank the countries, But the official table is always ordered by Gold first then silver etc. China have more medals overall though.
Another way is medals versus population. In that case New Zealand is third. GB 16th, USA 42nd and China the most populous country are 68th.
Grenada are first with 1 medal for their 106 thousand ish people.

Medals by population I suppose has to be the fairest way of working out who has the most athletic nation in the world. Although I have to laugh at USA coming in at 42, and Grenada in 1st place when you do this.
I thought that Jamaica would be top thanks to The Bolt.. but they have 2.7 million people. A lot compared to other places. They shoot up to 3rd place on Golds per capita though.

Maybe it's just my negative attitude but I think if you win a medal in an Olympic games (extremely rare and difficult to do) and are disappointed about it being a bronze or silver then you're just really selfish. Many of the other athletes that watched that interview who didn't win a medal would've been stoked if they even won bronze. Take the medal and be grateful, not greedy.

No disrespect but you have the 'take part' attitude if you would be content with a bronze medal before you have competed and you have the opportunity of a lifetime to win gold. Athletes who make it to the Olympics have their heart set on gold, that's what makes all of them winners regardless what position they eventually come in.
My money would be on Flash, not even Superman can match Flash for speed. Not sure how this question ties up with the Olympics. It's a bit unfair comparing Usain Bolt to two fictional characters.
So close in the table. Whatever happens GB have out done themselves. USA are as dominant as ever. But GB have been amazing. Hockey on right now. 2 all.. come on GB

Countries still with a realistic chance of top 5 or top 3:
1st - United States (38G, 35S, 32B) 2nd - Great Britain (24G, 22S, 14B) 3rd - China (22G, 18S, 25B) 4th - Germany (14G, 8S, 13B) 5th - Russia (13G, 16S, 19B) 6th - Japan (12G ,8S ,21B)
Looks like the top 3 are set and the order will probably stay the same. Can Japan sneak back into the 5? Because France, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, & South Korea are too far back.

Yeah, the US has it all but clinched the overall win. I knew we'd be leading after the swimming and gymnastic events because of Phelps and Biles, but I didn't see them distancing themselves during track and field.
