NFL - Discussion Thread

I have Eagles winning their division. They made a lot of great moves during the offseason. It all hinges on Hurts, but adding Saquon to their offense should pay wonders. Dallas has no real RB, and we all know how Dak usually plays when he feels like has to do it all. That said, Dallas should still be a playoff team.

I've picked pretty safe this week too. Just 1 'upset' based on Yahoo. Still a little dumbfounded at the choice to have a Week 1 game in Brazil of all places. I'm all for growing the game internationally, but a bit of an odd choice to have the first game of the season on foreign soil. At least the timezone matches up.

I have heard a lot of players are disgruntled by having to go there. Not sure why Goodell picked Brazil as a place to try to expand the NFL Brand. Maybe it will just end up being a one off. Does the NFL still have a game in Mexico? Or was it just that one time?

When I initially did my picks a week ago, it said I had three upsets. Now I only have one. Guessing the spreads finally caught up. lol

Brazil? I'm not surprised the players are disgruntled. It's going to mess both teams up for week 2. I may pick against both teams regardless who they are playing in Week 2 just based on that.

Washington are going after OL Christen Wirfs of the Bucs. He would be a good pick up if they can get him.

The talk around Washington is if Luke McCaffery doesn't produce as the second reciever by around week 6 the team will be going after Davonte Adams of the Raiders.

Chiefs won by a toe. lol

I thought it looked out in real time, but the replays confirmed it. Not sure why some of the Raven players can't accept reality. lol

Chiefs defense, however, is looking like it will again be the weak link. Outside of Jones, Karlauftis and McDuffie, they are a group of meh. The offense will of course carry them, but I just don't understand how it's the same thing year after year there. The strategy is clearly just get one or two stops and pin all the hope on the offense constantly scoring. Can't fault them too much since it has been a winning formula for them, but at some point you have to invest in the defense.

I couldn't stay up for the 4th quarter but I saw the first 3. Chiefs D did look pretty meh. Definitely a step back from last year. Jackson looked kind of hesitant to throw the ball downfield. I was also surprised at the lack of Mark Andrews usage.

Yeah, I think they are taking it slow with Andrews since he is coming off injury from last year. They said he was 100%, but they did not play him like a guy who was.

I still do not understand why the Chiefs went prevent at the end, but I guess every team does that these days. Really stupid imo since any decent QB can pick it slowly apart. Almost lost the Chiefs that game.

Really fun game just now even if it felt like it took about 6 hours lol. Both teams looked a little rusty - the Eagles are definitely missing Kelce's stability, but Barkley looks like a huge pickup for them. This was a really winnable game for the Packers but they couldn't capitalize on Hurts' early mistakes. Hopefully Love's not injured, looks like he tweaked his ankle or something at the end there.

No idea what was going on with the field, either. That was natural grass, right? Dudes were slipping all over the place all night.

Yeah, both teams definitely looked rusty out there last night. Field conditions did not help either. Not sure what the heck was going on with the field, but it was coming up like no tomorrow and players could not help but slip. I hope the NFL thought it was worth it to host a game in Brazil, that is all I am saying.

That said, Packers probably should have won. They just could not capitalize on the early turnovers by the Eagles. Both defenses left something to be desired, but that was to be expected since preseason is just a formality at this point.

Barkley is looking like a huge pick up for the Eagles. I can't see Dallas or Washington stopping him and they both have to play him twice.

Wow. Cowboys have signed Dak to a 4-year 240M extension, with 231M guaranteed. That is so much guaranteed money, holy moly.

I saw that too, I can't believe Dallas have invested everything in Prescott, haven't they seen him choke enough in the playoffs.

What happens to Parsons now? He's due to get paid, not enough money for him, at least what he wants.

Yeah, gonna be hard to pay Parsons without massively gutting the team.

Gotta say, it's really satisfying to see Watson struggle while Baker plays his heart out in Tampa. Cleveland will always be a poverty franchise.

Had a feeling Mike and I picked all the same teams. lol

Great week all around for each of us. Playing it safe definitely paid off.

Still cannot believe the Cowboys gave Dak basically a fully guaranteed contract at sixty million a year. I would have waited to see what he did this season. If he could help make a playoff run, then maybe I would pay him. Otherwise, I would have let him walk in free agency. They could have gotten Sanders or Beck in this upcoming draft, or they could have tanked for a year or two and have the chance at Manning, Iamaleava or Raiola.

Nice week for all of us to start off the year. Definitely smart to play it safe. Not sure what happened with the Bengals, but they always seem to start off slow.

Two games this next week have me a little stumped, but I am just going to go with my gut.

Burrow looked a little rusty.

Another conservative week for me, just a couple 'upsets'. Stumped on 2 of them as well, probably the same ones.

Really, really tough start for Miami so far. I'm surprised you guys both picked them.

I only went with Miami because their only shot to defeat the Bills this year was tonight, and they knew they really needed to win this one if they were to have any shot at the division. They will now go 0-2 against them.

Horrible defense for Miami. Game was over by halftime. Tuas picks did not help, but that defense was atrocious.

And then Tua gets another concussion. The season could be over for Miami, and Tuas career could be done as well.

What happens now with Tua, two games into his new contract and he gets another concussion. He may be forced out of the game whether he wants to leave it or not. What contingency plans have Miami put in place for this scenario?
