Surgery and Illness

Has anybody been unfortunate enough to undergo major surgery or are fighting a life threatening illness? I'd be interested to hear your story and I'm sure others would too. I had a tumor the size of a golf ball removed from my head a few years back which would have paralysed the left side of my body if it was not removed.

This thread might need a 'not suitable for lunch-time' warning in the title.

I've been lucky enough so far to get by with nothing yet, anything can change though.

No, I havent had major surgery!

The most major "surgery" is my tonsils removed.

I had to have my tonsils taken out when I was a young kid too, I was so young I can't remember it.

I remember Richard talking about you a lot when you had surgery. He seemed pretty concerned with it.

The only thing I've ever really had was a flesh eating genetic disorder that took most of the skin off my torso. This was around the time I was ready to graduate high school, so... hate 2009 - late 2011?

I know it forced me to drop out of high school in the end of 2009. I was confined to a bed for over a year and forced to take this horrible medicine. There was an 18 page contract that came with the medicine because the medicine gave people suicidal tendencies, made them irritable, and would eventually give them colitis / crohn's disease a few years after taking the medicine.

Unfortunately I spent most of that time on SuperCheats. That medicine turned me into a little ****.

As far as the colitis / crohn'ss disease side effects, I've started to feel the beginnings of them in the past two years. I'm to the point where I can't really eat a lot of starch or red meat without spending the night in a fetal position.

That sounds like a nightmare, I'm sorry to hear that. How did you get this flesh eating disorder, is it hereditory or something you catch? Will you be able to make a full recovery in time or is it one of those illnesses you have to take medicine for the rest of your life to control it?

That sounds like a complete nightmare, really hate to hear these stories. Really shows how much you don't know at all what could be going on the other side of the computers. Best wishes to everyone. Hate anyone has to go thru these kinds of obstacles in life.

Ive had my tonsils out and spent a month eating ice cream and food through a straw.

After I had my gallbladder removed and ended up with IBS

Now Im hoping to get my nose corrected. Its been broken too many times.

Yeah I'm tonsils and thats it. I was like 5/6 anyway. Hopefully nothing else lol.

Rugby ball to the face (do not play rugby drunk)
And when I was a kid I was afraid of the first 10 steps of my stairs as they had no back and I thought I'd fall through them. So I would jump and my dad would catch me. So one day I jumped, my mother called my dad, he turned a way and I fell flat on my face.

Plus everytime I hit my face its always my poor nose!

I once got a softball to the face, and no, it wasn't soft. Didn't break my nose though.

Only appendicitis and meningitis for me, both caught just in time. The latter giving me random bouts of migraines for life. Nowhere near as bad as you guys, kudos for the courage you'd have had to had to soldier through. Respect.

Oh sh*t mate. Glad your all good. Sucks about the migraines though.

I haven't had any serious illnesses or injuries before, but one of my friends tore his ACL, PCL, and had a chunk of his knee taken off during sport a couple of years ago.
