I'm the best driver ever. Passed all my Driver's Ed Tests with 100%. On my first lesson, my instructor told me I should have my license. No accidents where I was at fault.
Please Pokemon Master, what is the secret to passing a driving test? My instructor says my driving in lessons is good enough to pass but on test 1 I insta-failed on stage 3/5 and on test 2 insta-failed on stage 1/5.

I remember taking my driving test way back in 1987, the examiner looked at the name on his clipboard when he got in the care and then looked at me and said he knew someone with the same name as me when he was younger. I have the same name as my dad and it turns out he was my dad's mate from back in the day. Anyway, I passed the test and as I'm getting out of the car he asks me to say hello to my dad when I see him next. Pretty sure that helped me pass the test as I am a lousy driver.
Driving tests were definitely easier back then. If you could hold it together for 20 minutes and perform a 3 point turn you were done. Having said that I failed my first one. Drove too fast. Harder now. but then thats a good thing.
I think I'm a fairly good driver, but I know I make mistakes from time to time. Everyone does so don't go thinking you are a star driver when you pass. Be confident in your abilities but don't believe you are infallible or you'll end up going through a hedge backwards.

I doubt I'd pass a driving test back in the UK now, they have now introduced a written exam which wasn't around when I took my test. All I had to do was answer three questions, one of which was the sequence of the traffic lights. The trick I was told back in the day for passing your driving test was to look in your rear view and wing mirrors every three seconds to show the intructor you were aware of what was around you. Only last week the UK have added to the driving test, candidates are now required to show they know how to use and follow a navigation system that is installed in the car. In Spain when you take your driving test you have to take it with other candidates in the car with you, this doesn't seem like much but when you are taking a test and are nervous and under pressure you can do without looking in your rear view mirror and seeing strangers sitting behind you.
The driving test is extremely complex here in Australia. There are 5 stages, and you need to pass 4/5 of them. To pass each section you need a certain amount of boxes ticked, and if there's one specific skill you aren't doing enough (eg looking in mirrors enough or turning properly) you can't pass. Stage 1 is just driving around and then you parallel park on the side. Stage 2 is left something behind, where you drive on and then have to turn around and re-park in that spot. Stage 3 is drive around again and after that in the stages (I don't know what is in each stage cause I haven't ever at least completed the test) there is reverse parallel parking and standard parking; normal and reverse. You also instantly fail (unless the instructor is lenient, but 2 of these will absolutely fail you) if you are prompted a few times, if you almost or do cause a crash, if you disobey a sign or road marking, if you disobey traffic regulation, if you don't respond to someone else's screw up, and some other things.
So in a test, where you are extremely stressed, the slightest screw up can result in $130 down the drain. You even automatically fail the test if your instructor's car is faulty (someone I know failed because his instructor's windscreen window could not go down). The common trap for me is waiting to turn onto another road or a roundabout. If you take too long cause you want to be conservative and not be insta-failed for going too early, you get warned. If you go too early cause you feel pressured to go so you're not warned, you insta-fail. Both tests I've insta-failed for going too early because I've felt pressured to go.
The way things are going I will not be driving alone in the immediate future. I'm not even being a pessimist about it; I've done double the expected hours and I'm miles off.

I always hated driving but now I'm getting more confident. I am a good driver. I think it's because my vehicle is huge and doesn't have smooth pedals. I know exactly how much force I'm applying and it helps.
It must be a joy to drive where you are KingofCorn, you probably don't see any traffic, just fields and fields of corn. In central London nowadays a 2 Kilometer journey will take you about 45 minutes there's so many cars causing conjestion on the road.
I can't drive until next year. So for now I can deal with watching people crash their cars in movies, and running over people, cyclists and anyone and thing I can in GTA V.
