Maybe it's you bloody Aussies. Not able to understand anything. Until recent you all were like "I don't understand the point of legalising gay marriage".
Australia is a Christian country. It's just taken a while for a lot of religious people to change their minds regarding homosexuality. NZ would've been the same before they legalised it.

Religion sees marriage as between a man and a woman and that's it. There are a lot of religious people and it was heavily evident 40+ years ago so everyone just caught onto that idea. For religious people, they must obey the word of God, and that is that same-sex marriage; or same-sex activity, is sinning, and sinners cannot go to heaven. I get why hundreds of millions of people are against it.
Wait I'm getting 2 interpretations of your post here...

I mean, only Christianity really "imposes" bi-sex marriage when you think about it. For example, I don't know much about the Qur'an, but I highly doubt that it addresses marriage. Same goes for Buddhism. And technically according to the Christian worldview, someone could be in a same-sex marriage but still become a Christian afterward since everyone is a sinner and only in God is there redemption.

I hope someone's secretly put me on drugs. Otherwise I need to re-calibrate this brain to work out what people are meaning...
It's as if you are for same-sex marriage & think there's no real problem, but then as if you think it is a bad thing, "It's sad that people mistake their good friends as their partners for life", as if you're saying people should just keep their friends and ignore attraction...
Don't mind me. I'm just a strange one at interpreting things sometimes. Also going from 'my brain is dying 24/7 from studying' to 'I have nothing to do' has thrown my head out the window.
