So I saw an article yesterday about you kids these days. Talking about how the general 16-24 year olds at present are basically a text/instant message generation. Nothing surprising I guess. Even us oldies prefer the ease of messaging and emails for communication. But they talked about how there are young people now who have never made a phone call. sounds like an exaggeration, but maybe it happens. People who are looking for jobs but don't know how to communicate in person or on the phone as they try to make all their interactions via messaging even with family and friends.
Verbal communication seems so important for getting your message across fully with the right emphasis and clues to your intentions (anger, sarcasm politeness etc). Can you see a world in the future where we can have full personal or business relationships without face to face talking? Can we smiley face / sad face our way through life?

I much prefer texting, simply that I have time to think what to say, but I do have moments when I wonder what someone's tone is. Like whether they're joking or being dead serious about something. Or sarcasm.
Can't believe some people haven't made a call?!?!?!

I prefer messaging over talking. It's better being able to visually communicate with people than verbally especially when your in a room with other people or a class. I think that's a major over-dramatisation. That's the problem with some of the people of the generation before us - they see us as overemotional phone addicts. Grow the **** up, we're all human beings, be a judgemental **** somewhere else...
I agree, but surely you understand too that phone calls are sometimes necessary (Mark said some kids haven't even had one, ever).
Phone calls are good, when I want to have them. If it's close to dinner or I'm about to watch TV it's good to just send a quick text back rather than dial.

Its not a case of not treating you like human beings, its the concept that generations before you didn't have such technology and they just want to look at the impact that it is having within society. Look at my case for example. I had over 100 penpals and I would write letters to them constantly, every day I would recieve 4 or 5 and I sent 4 or 5 a day. That is basically now facebook so really these articles are there for us to understand how the younger generation communicate. Its not judging you, its simply comparing and seeing if its affecting our ability to be sociable face to face.
Its not just the older generation judging the youth of today. Everyone judges and theres no need to get your knickers in a twist about it either.
Thanx to Craizen for the sig, love ya babe, Hubby for the avi.
