Matt, the majority of my family are from England, what do you expect? I've never referred to it as soccer. But we don't have AFL here either. And if you call rugby football, then you are clearly disadvantaged in English.
meh.. semantics. doesn't matter what you call it really. Yes good job by Aus. and denmark only won 1-0 over peru. a lot lower scoring games that i would have guessed. Argentina drew 1-1 to iceland. that's very surprising. blimey... germany are 1-0 down to mexico right now.. games not over yet though.

Haha, Germany lost! Too bad it means absolutely nothing since they just need to place 1st or 2nd out of 4 teams to advance. Last time they lost their opening WC match they made the final.
I'm just thinking of the poor Russian players. Putin 'ordered' them to win aka if you don't win bad things may occur... I guess that's why they won 5-0 earlier lol.

How the hell the hell do the likes of Panama, Serbia, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia qualified and the likes of Italy and Holland who actually have a chance of winning the competition are watching the games at home.
From what I've seen so far Portuagal and Spain are playing a different class of football to everyone else. I can't believe Mexico beat Germany, I didn't see that result happening and although Messi is the best player in the world in the national squad he becomes ordinary. The reason why, it's because at Barcelona the team is built around him but in the national squad it's not. It's a shame really, if Argentina took Barcelona as their blueprint and built the squad around Messi they'd have a good chance of winning the tournament as he'd have some of the best players in the world at their positions supporting him.
Ronaldo is on fire, he'll probably get the golden boot as he'll be playing more games than Harry Kane whose tournament with England ends in the last eight were France beat them 3-1. It would have been Brazil but with Germany losing to Mexico it looks like it will be Brazil vs Germany.
Matt, the Cleveland Browns have more chance of winning the Super Bowl than Australia has of lifting the World Cup.
Who will win the World Cup, my money is on France or Spain.
Don't forget about Belgium. They have some very handy EPL players, and thrashed Panama 3-0. Meanwhile Germany lost 0-1 to Mexico, France barely scraped past Australia 2-1, & Spain drew 3-3 versing Ronaldo solely.
Dennis, they obviously lost in the qualifying. Just remember, we nearly had Syria feature in this world cup. As in the ISIS-controlled country. If you lose in qualifying, too bad I guess. Still, there are some countries which are terrible ie the conditions and values of those countries. Russia, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, & Nigeria are just some. Even worse, Russia get to host the bloody thing even though they are practically a dictatorship with little human rights for minorities.
England look cooked. Crawled over the line 2-1 against Tunisia, with Kane scoring all their goals, including the second at 90+1. Bizarrely, if Australia and England versed right now, Australia would have to be favourites. A week ago they were the laughing stock of the world cup, but they held their own against France and were unlucky to concede late.

There are some unexpected teams in it for sure. but then again some of those teams are doing better than i would have expected.
From the little action I have actually watched so far though I really wish that the video replay was used to spot when someone was faking an injury and that it was a cardable offense. Some players just seem to be only on the pitch for their acting abilities.
Anywho.. so relieved that england got 3 points last night. Press would have been apocalyptic if they hadn't.

It's such a shame, the press are half the reason England will never win the World Cup in my lifetime. Each of those England players know that if they screw up on the big stage they are going to be the nations scapegoats for the rest of the summer until the new season starts up again. In the past I Chris Waddle, Stuart Pierce, David Beckham, David Batty, Gareth Southgate, and Wayne Rooney have been crucified by the press after their mistakes. Having that type of pressure in the back of your head has to affect your play, especially when taking a penalty. I think I'd politely decline to play if I was asked, just not worth the aggrevation. There's at least six teams out there clearly better than England.
Matt, you're right about Belgium, that's not an easy game, they could beat England. If England beat Panama and then draw with Belgium it will be enough to get through. Ideally it's better to be top of your group as it guarantees and easier game in the next round.
AUS back in action today against Denmark. They are going to need to win to give themselves a chance to go through. Good luck
seems to be a lot of low scoring games so far. Apart from Ronaldo maybe no one is making good chances. Read yesterday that the top listed scorer in the championships is 'Own Goal'. 5 so far.
