I only managed to see the 3rd set (match started at 3am my time), but Medvedev was just playing solid. He was playing with the right mix of attack and defense, and never looked vulnerable. The only time he did was when the crowd were jeering his double faults when he served for the match at 5-2.
You've got to feel for Novak. 27 consecutive GS wins, and he was the favourite in the final. He had the chance to cement GOAT status (he will end up with the most GS titles, but the calendar year GS would've topped it off).
As for Raducanu, she'll probably do what most young WTA GS winners do. After all, she has never played a top 10 player in her career before, and if not for a horrible choke, she would've had to play Barty in the 4th round.

I think the pressure got to him a little. He said it was a relief to lose. It would explain all the sets he lost leading up to the finals. No big deal since he will win the Australian and be the king.
The last 5 years or so of Novak's career have been very inconsistent. He has long periods of winning GSs, and long periods where he slumps. And now Medvedev and Thiem have both gotten over the mental block of being slamless. He's the favourite no doubt, but it's less certain than previous years.
Also I'm not convinced Rafa will win the French. He needs to prove that he is over his foot injury. Plus he will be almost 36. And Thiem will probably he out of his slump by then. In this year's French Open he should've lost a set in his 1st round, and he lost a set in the quarter final as well. I'm happy that there is a bit more unpredictability in mens tennis now.
In other news, apparently Serena and Sharapova are friends now xD

How good is Emma Raducanu? The British press are raving about her at the moment after her US Open grand slam win. I must admit I was impressed by the way she won it, didn't loose a set and kept her composure throughout the tournament, no sign whatsoever of choking. Is she the next ladies Tennis legend now Serena William's dominance is over or is she a one Tournament wonder.
Have to laugh at the British press, they are constantly debating whether she is British. Mother and father are Chinese and Romanian, she was born in Canada, and lives in the UK. Funny enough Raducanu has the same London accent as me so as far as I am concerned she's British.
Hope she is the new face of ladies Tennis, I'll start watching it again if she is. I've been looking for a player to support since Sharapova retired and Raducanu would be the perfect replacement. I may even start picking up a few autographed Tennis trading cards as an investment if you think she will become a legend in the game. Have to get them now though while she is still young and on the rise. The Sharapova autograph trading cards I collected back in 2003 go for $500 plus dollars each with one as high as $2K.
I hear what you are saying Warrior13, you have to admit though that it is impressive that she didn't drop a set on her way to the US Open title and she is only 18 years old. She could be a major force on the womens circuit for the next 10 years if she maintains her form and improves.
Even Barty is inconsistent at Slams. It's just that she's the only consistent player outside of slams. I mean, she let a 5-2 double break lead slip, and if she had won she would've played Raducanu in the 4th round.
Medvedev has proven he is a force on hard courts. His last hard court GSs have been: 2021 US Open - Champion 2021 Aus Open - Runner up (losing to champion Novak) 2020 US Open - Semi finals (losing to champion Thiem) 2020 Aus Open - 4th round (lost in 5 sets) 2019 US Open - Runner up (losing to champion Rafa in 5 sets)

Anyone see Novak Djokovic on the court after a game call out John McEnroe who was up in the broadcasting booth. McEnroe takes of his jacket and tie and actually came down onto the court and served a few balls to Djokovic. To begin with Djokovic thought it was all a big joke but when McEnroe stated playing some unbelievable shots which made Djokovic look silly proceedings were brought to a halt. John McEnroe is 62.
Yes, but he's proven he has consistent results and will nearly always be a contender at hard court slams. It's hard to find consistency in tennis outside of the big 3.

Emma Raducanu lost in her first match of Indian Wells (big tournament) 2-6 4-6. Her body language was terrible all match. She seemed mentally exhausted.
Medvedev also choked a set and double break lead against Grigor Dimitrov in the 4th round. This almost guarantees Novak the year end #1 title.
Cam Norrie became the first male British player to win Indian Wells. He's risen from 76th, to 13th in the world this year.
Sharapova-lookalike Paula Badosa also won in dramatic fashion. Victoria Azarenka served for the title at 5-4 30-0, before hitting 4 unforced errors. Badosa then won it in the 3rd set tiebreak with huge shotmaking. She's now 11th in the world. Warrior13 start following her
