Tua would probably get another shot jut based on his College success. I doubt Daniel Jones would.

Danny could probably get a nice backup deal. Someone would probably take a chance on Tua as a starter since after this season he'll only have about a season and a half's worth of games started while Jones will have 3. The 5th year option is also really really valuable for QBs so if a good team with cap issues needs a QB after this season - Falcons, Saints, the Buccaneers have a reckoning coming after this season with a TON of contracts expiring and not a ton of room to work with. The Panthers may also be looking for their longterm answer if Darnold doesn't work out and they don't like the draft class. I really wouldn't be surprised if one or both end up in the NFC South, but I think Tua will play well enough to stay the starter in Miami.

Exactly. Like if Tua struggles or if the Dolphins could somehow get and convince Rodgers to play for them, the Phins should still get a return on Tua. I bet a team would even give up a 1st considering he would have two to three cheap years and then the fifth year option.

If Jones struggles, it will be because of turnovers and that will be three years straight for him. No one would want that as their starter, but definitely as a backup under a much cheaper deal.

Jones's big problem is the fumble. He has a really nice deep ball and should do pretty well with the weapons the Giants picked up. He just needs to hold on to the ball better.

Most definitely. I do not understand how a QB has fumble problems, but it reminds me a little of both Alex Smith and Rodgers. For some reason, my brain recalls them having a certain level of fumblitis when they first entered the league.

Yeah Rodgers had 10 and 10 his first 2 year starting, Smith had 11 in 9 games his rookie year then 10 in his full sophomore season. Both cut down on them afterwards besides Rodgers having 12 in his 2014 MVP year. But he only threw 5 picks that year.

Jones had 18 fumbles in 13 games his rookie year and 11 last year. So he did cut down on them but he also threw 12 and 10 picks, but it's really more about total turnovers than it is fumbles, because not every fumble is a turnover.

My brain was right!!! lol

Jones has to clean that up. The Giants cannot do anything if he has another year of that, and that says a lot since many believe they could be a Wild Card team.

So last year Jones was tied for 7th in total turnovers, behind Wentz, Cousins, Lock, Wilson, Carr, and Goff. Tied with Mullins, Josh Allen, and Kyler Murray. So he's actually kind of right in the middle of pack in terms of total turnovers. But he's tied for 2nd with Allen with 6 lost fumbles, only behind Derek Carr's 8.

The issue there is that Allen had almost double Jones' rushing attempts (102 to 65, Carr only had 35). I think the key for all 3 of these guys is just getting out of bounds instead of trying to get a couple extra yards. I know Carr is especially has a few plays where he's stretching out for a bit more when he really shouldn't.

I feel like Jones fumbles any time he is hit. lol

My mom and dad saw him play once in preseason when they were up in New Jersey, and I think they saw he fumbled three different times.

But he cleaned it up near the end of last year, so hopefully he can build off of that. The Giants will be underwhelming once again if he reverts back to his usual.

No chance whatsoever of getting a first for Tua if he is traded. You would be lucky if you got a low second. With that medical history and patchy NFL experience he's not the potential superstar coming out of college any more, he's damaged goods. Darnold didn't get a first and be was a higher rated prospect than Tua.

Oh no, Miami would definitely get a 1st if they trade Tua before the start of the season. Again, something like that would only happen if they could get the likes of Rodgers (unlikely). As Mike alluded to, the years left on his contract are extremely valuable when coupled with the talent everyone saw with him back in college. Tua is way cheap for the next three years, and even his final option year would be far less than what you would pay one of the top QBs.

Now, if Tua wasn't traded before the season and then struggles, then I think his value would drop. But I don't think Miami would pull the trigger of trading him if his value drops, especially with the weaker QB Class in the next draft. Miami made sure to keep both of the 2023 1st Rounders they have, so it appears Tua will be getting at least three with the Phins before they move on from him.

They didn't get a first for Darnold cause he's already played for 3 years and has been pretty bad. The line between "This is who he is" and "the Jets squandered his potential" is blurry. Tua's only got half a season under his belt and is still firmly in the high potential category.

Exactly. Plus he would have four years left if somehow traded before the season. Those two alone would get the Phins a 1st, albeit likely a later 1st from a real contender.

Ok, let's see what happens. So we agree on that if he gets traded before the season starts he goes for a first rounder and if he looks dreadful during the season and Miami get rid of him he goes for a third.

I think at any point this season Miami will be able to get a first rounder for him, whether it's for this draft or a future one. Unless he is historically bad.

I do not see them trading Tua this year unless they can get Rodgers. What is the point otherwise? If he is good, they will not trade him. If he is bad, they will give him one last chance in 2022 since the draft class is too weak to invest in. But if they do trade him, I agree with Mike. He will go for a 1st unless he is absolutely terrible.

What teams do you think would realistically be interested in Tua as their starter? I don't see many openings to be honest.

Washington could use him.

New Orleans would probably be very scary with Tua.

Tua would also probably tear it up in Denver considering all the weapons they have.

I'm sure Gruden would take him over Carr.

Steelers could use him as a true heir apparent to Big Ben.

That's about it, but I'm not sure which would give up a 1st for him. Maybe the Vikings if they are finally tired of being above average with Cousins.

I doubt Washington would be interested, they seem to have high hopes for Hieneke after the way he performed against Tampa in the playoffs.

New Orleans is a possibility and so is Pittsbugh but he would have to prove himself in both teams.

Gruden has a tough decision to make. Carr is a very good quarterback but nothing special. He will not win a Super Bowl with Carr.

I agree about the Raiders. If they were smart, they would constantly be calling the Packers about acquiring Rodgers.
