I hadn't heard of it either until you mentioned it.

I thought it was way weird when the dude was explaining it. On the one hand, I understood the premise since, yeah, someone can complete a catch (have possession) and then the ground can cause the ball to pop out. But on the other hand, I didn't understand why that rule would change after all this time. Hopefully the dude is mistaken because that would have as great a change as the Dez Bryant Catch rule change.

So what happens with the feet, do they still have to be in bounds when the catch is made or can a reciever catch the ball and be pushed out of bounds and it doesn't matter if his feet don't land in bounds?

This is a confusing rule change, how is having the ball under control determined if it doesn't matter if you don't go down with the ball under control.

If it is indeed an official rule change (might not be as I haven't heard about it since that one instance), you would still have to get your two feet in bounds. I guess possession and the two feet would make it a catch, and if it came out when you hit the ground out of bounds it wouldn't matter. Again, still can't confirm this rule change.

However, the taunting rule change is 100% in force. I've already seen it called a number of times; no standing over a player after a play is over.

The taunting calls are a little extreme sometimes. If you make a crazy play especially 1 on 1 you should have a little leeway.

This is getting ridiculous, first they take away the violence and now the smack talk and celebrations. Those are the things which fans love to see in football.

Seeing players get under each other's skins is mental warfare and part of the game, particularly for defensive players. Call it what it is, football is a full contact sport where the objective is to dominate the other team. Standing over a player or spiking the odd ball in their direction when you have beaten them adds to the fun of the game. We are literally going to end up with guys with the personalities of robots playing football. I keep on hearing this word 'professionalism' being used, I'd rather see players with 'charisma' play football. If the sport doesn't have larger than life characters competing each week the game will suffer the price by becoming boring.

I'm okay with the towering stare down being removed. You can still look down a dude, just now while stadnign over them while they are lying on the ground.

Besides that, all celebrations are still allowed (at least when not obnoxious).

I kinda like the standing over thing when appropriate. It's fun and the only thing hurt is pride. Destroy a RB five yards in the backfield? go ahead and do it. It's jkust lame to see a guy do it when he makes a routine play down 20.

I think popping a guy is a enough without the stand over look down. lol

There are also so many better celebrations than that.

I don't want to see players celebrating after every play, just on those where a game changing play has taken place. I want to see the player go a little bit nuts after those plays, fire up his teammates and the crowd. Plays like sacks, big yardage catches and runs, interceptions, and tackles for big losses. A few scuffles on the field adds to the entertainment, so what if the odd quarterback gets a black eye or a cracked rib, they get paid enough. Old timers like Joe Montana and Dan Marino would just get up, yell at the guy who missed the block and get on with the game. I miss the 70s and 80s NFL.

I tend to agree. I do not need to see the first down arm throw after the most basic first down, and I do not need to see Zek Elliott doing his feed me motion after every first down. I like it for Sacks, turnovers, 4th down first, or TD.

Yeah exactly. Not the NFL, but in Madden they do celebrations all the time, especially that fist down arm thing. A couple years ago I was playing my buddy and he was just destroying me, I was down 35. Punted the ball and pinned him on his own 1, my punter dances off the field celebrating lol.

I wonder if Riverboat Ron would consider playing the 45 defense his Bears played in 85 and ripped up the league with. Washington now have the players to do it and unlike the 85 Bears do not have any man on man cover issues which Miami exposed to make them go 15-1. Nobody in the league would be able to stop that rush. That's literally 5 former number 1 picks alongside some excellent overachievers.

How did Kerrigan get on with the Eagles, not too good judging by the 35-0 score.

I think you mean the 46 defense. Unfortunately, I do not think the Redskins could pull it off. They do not have the talent in their secondary to run it. Plus, most teams run three or four wide all the time, and that would be tough to cover with LBs.

Yes, the 46 defense. The talent Washington has in the secondary is better than what the Bears had. That was the weakness of that team, they couldn't cover one on one and Dan Marino's quick release and bravery under intense pressure pulled off the win. I actually remember watching it in 1985.

Amazing game, all you heard all season was the Chicago Bears, they were killing everyone, quarterbacks were going to the hospital each week. The player Washington doesn't have is a Mike Singletry at middle linebacker who ran the defense on the field.

Jamin Davis was the linebacker in college who marked Pitts out of the game when both college teams played so I feel pretty confident on his one on one against anyone. Not too sure about the other two linebackers to be honest. I'd like to see Washington try the 46 though.

I do not think they need eight in the box. Lets be real: their starting D Line is scary enough. lol

I guess so. Is Matt organising this year's competition? I can't wait for the season to start.

He hasn't been super active lately, so I'm not sure. When it gets closer to the season if he hasn't said one of us can do it. I think using Yahoo worked out pretty well last year.

I can't wait either.

My family is also getting ready. Some want to do it online, but I've always handled it because so many people forget and then the online ones kill them because they go winless for being late. lol
