I think it is worse for TV Stars. Movies you can kind of get away with since each role is different and only last two hours. But when you are the same character for ten years, its hard to be known for anything else. It is also hard to break from that character.

I don't watch Dexter, but this is definitely a huge thing for my favorite show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. That show's been running for 15 years and any time I see Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Rob McElhenny, or Kate Olson I just see their characters from Sunny. Danny DeVito is a main character too but he was fmaous enough before Sunny that I don't think his Sunny character has completely taken over yet.

Charlie Day is voicing Luigi in that new Mario movie and the only thing I can think of is that Luigi is an It's Always Sunny character now.

'Always sunny in Philadelphia', never heard of it and it's been running for 16 years. It's strange how different parts of the world has TV shows that are household names in their area. In the UK it's Eastenders and Coronation Street. In Australia it's Home and Away and Nieghbours.I bet if you asked Mat he could name you all the actors in both shows like I can with the UK equivalents even though I don't watch them. All four shows I mentioned are garbage TV, the only good thing to come out of the Aussie series was Margot Roby.

Ah, those are soap operas. We've got "Days of Our Lives", "General Hospital", "The Bold and the Beautiful", and "The Young and the Restless". All garbage.

"Sunny" is more of a sitcom like "Community", "Parks and Rec", or "Arrested Development" if you've heard of those. I guess you could compare it to Friends or Seinfeld but it's a little edgier and more vulgar.

I've heard of Friends, that was big in the UK, mainly because of Jennifer Aniston's haircut which all the girls at the time tried to copy.

Friends is alright. I'm a little young to have grown up with it but I've seen a good number of reruns. It's a pretty generic sitcom with fun characters. It made pretty big news near the end of its run because the main characters were making $1M per episode. Even today each of the 6 main characters supposedly make $20m per year in rerun royalties.

Takes a lot to pique my interest.

Same here, especially as I've gotten older. I hardly watch any TV at all. I like some of the HBO shows, I recently watched The Sopranos and really liked it. If a show doesn't grip me in the first couple episodes I usually drop it.

I'm exactly the same, for a series to grab my attention it has to be special. The only ones that have been able to do that recently are the Sopranos (best ever), Dexter, and Breaking Bad.

Friends did nothing for me, Happy Days and Batman with Adam West were better.

I really, really liked the Sopranos. I even saw that movie The Many Saints of Newark that just came out and was really disappointed. Breaking Bad was excellent too.

Since you liked Sopranos you might like Boardwalk Empire, it's still focused on the mob, just in 1920-1930s instead. My friend really liked it but it didn't grab me.

Mad Men was also excellent, imo. It's a little slow throughout but I don't think I've ever cared about TV characters more.

Third episode was tonight. It was good. Story is starting to be built. I have a few inclinations, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if they plan on making more series for Dexter after this one.

I want to see The Many Saints of Newark, it stars the actual son of James Gandolphini as a young Toni Soprano. I absolutely loved the Sopranos when it first aired, it was must-watch TV, so many great characters. I was gutted when the series ended, there was talk of a movie but it never materialised which was a shame. It was also sad to hear of James Gandolphini passing away, he was great as Tony Soprano.

I've seen all of Mad Men, my wife was into that series, ended up getting me hooked on it. Slow moving with no action but funny and enthralling in a strange kind of way. The red head secretary had magnificent breasts, apparently they were real.she I thought was the star of the show.

I've never heard of Broadwalk Empire, sounds like it's my sort of series, I'll keep a eye out for it.

I would definitely temper your expectations for The Many Saints of Newark. It's much more about Christopher's father and grandfather than it is about young Tony. Tony isn't even in about half of it, I'd say. And there were some weird plot points that settled some open questions from the original series but didn't really make any sense to me, IMO. Michael Gandolfini was excellent though.

Boardwalk Empire is finished, I think there are 5 seasons. Steve Buscemi (Tony Blundetto from Sopranos) is the main character. It wasn't for me but I think a big part of it is that I tried watching it as soon as I finished Sopranos and it doesn't reach those highs.

I'm sure they will make more Dexter. Unless they actually finish it off completely at the end of this season.

I think there will be at least one more season, this one will no doubt be left on a cliff hanger and if the season proves to be popular then negotiations for season three will be underway. If it was a one off season we would have been told I think.

It wad suppose to be a one off, but then they decided to do a reboot / spin off hybrid.

I do not mind the premise so far, but I had started writing a fan fiction before the new series was announced and I tend to like that storyline better.

I just hope if there is a continuing series it is not flogged to death and becomes stale. What attracted to me to the series originally was that he was blood splatter anaylst working for the Miami police department who was a serial killer in his spare time. It was that alone that intrigued my interest and made me give the series a go. it was a brilliant conception.

Exactly. It just got bad after the four season and the departure of the original director. He is back now, so hopefully he can keep produce good acting and good writing.

It was the bald black cop in the early seasons I liked.

'I don't like you Morgan, there's something not quite right with you, I'll be keeping an eye on you'.

Why did they have to kill him off, the comedy element he brought to the show was perfect.
