This maybe a very stupid theory,So don't take me wrong but,
Possibly,If the theory was that a meteor crashed into Earth,Killling The dinosaurs,Then possibly,Apes were in the metoer(like when strange stuff comes out of meteors and stuff from space),Jumped ouut,then eventually breeded and evolved....
Stupid theory but you never know....

Doesn't work, because the same meteor(s) screwed up the Earth's climate and made it unable to support life of the familiar kind.
