I can't work it out, I look at all the computer games being produced and its US Navy SEAL this or Delta Force that but everybody knows that the best Special Force in the world is the SAS. You've only got to look at their history and you can see why they are the first troops the Americans call up when their boys need training or a mission needs leading.

Where abouts is this quiet area you live in? Australian Outback?, Antartica? or somewhere else. If it's nice and quite as you say and I don't have to worry about terrorists blowing me up when I commute to London each day for work I might move there.

Wembley, Hounslow and I'm in Eltham, that's three of us literally on the outskirts of Central London within about 15 miles of each other. When X-Ploder said quiet I had this picture in my mind of an exotic location where you had to walk for a couple of miles before you encountered another human being.
How many Earthquakes have you experienced actionshark? I know California are famous for them. Along with Hurricanes and Volcanoes I can't think of anything more frightening than than being in the middle of an area where an Earthquake is happening. What's the story with the Smog attacks you also get in California, are they life threatening or are they just a nuisance. Are they the equivalent of what the British call Fog?

I moved into California in the year "1996" when I was 4. I've experienced about 5 earthquakes that could be felt during my lifetime. I experience almost a 4.0 earthquake in 2002 when I was 10.
I was at home while my parents were taking a shower when some of our vases and dining ware started to shake and a few fell, my parents didn't hear anything. Then about 30 minutes later when my mom was done taking a shower and in here bedroom a really powerful earthquake hit and it was about 4.0, I was using the computer(checking my e-mail) and then my mom called me to go outside immediatly, so I went and all the doors were shaking and some of our neighbors who had swimming pools had big waves splashing around, it was 11:00 o clock at night but all our neighbors were outside llooking frightened from their frontyards. The earthquake lasted for about 30 seconds. And then everyone went inside their homes watching carefully to see if another earthquake was coming but that was it.
_____________________________________________________________________
Yep that was one of the most scary moments in my life. I haven't felt one ever since though. And for smog, I really just ignore it but some of my friends complain about, as I live in San Fernando Valley and it's one of the most polluted areas and has way to many tall trees so it's really hard to get a good view. I will soon be moving out of LA county and be moving into the Kern county, a very desert-mountain type area with many farms. I'm excited as I'd like to see how an ol country life is like. I also heard earthquakes are much weaker there and I'm hoping that's true. California isn't all that bad, i went hiking on mount Whitney, the highest mountain in America, about 1500 thousand feet and visited Cattelina Island and Hawaii by boat. Come here if you want a real vacation as you can go to LA and some of the most tropical-resort places!

I live in the small town of Greenock where nothing happens. However across the river from where I live there is a major nuclear submarine base.

earthquakes are the most disastrous things in the world to me and i here a big one is coming close, I can die anytime from an earthquake so if you hear on the news about a CA earthquake and i don't reply on supercheats for about a month, you'll know I'm dead. And craig woods, be very careful around that hurricane, I hear it's a big one...

I've heard of Hurricane Ivan on the Welsh news. I think they said it was coming from Hawaii!

If you move to Wales be expected to climb a lot of hills, go through lots of rain and of course watch out for the occasional sheep. They're pretty scattered. Apart from that it's a fairly peaceful country.

oh then you don't have to worry about anything. and that hurricane nearly hit california but it passed. hurricanes and tornadoes are VERY RARE in california so I'm not worried. I has been getting rainy lately so that's probably why the hurricane started in the first place. And sorry but I'm not english one bit, I'm half german, half russian so you can't be expecting me to go to a place I've never lived in before. Besides, I like califronia, it's has many farms and it's like an ol country life, except LA, that's the only crowded place.....

I hope Hurricane Ivan which I've heard on the news is heading towards America doesn't effect anyone on these posts and if it does that they get through it safely and their normal day to day lives are quickly resumed.
I've read a couple of British Newspapers and they are claiming that New Orleans could be wiped off the map by Hurricane Ivan, something to do with where the city is situated. Is that an exageration by the press or is it a frightening possibility? I've seen some of the news footage from when it struck the Carribean and it just left total devestation behind.
