I guess it just seems to transport you to another world. Usually life is quite boring. When i read i'm suddenly stuck on an island with a murderer on the loose, or I'm flying on the mighty back of a dragon. It's also easier to ignore people if your face is in a book = D .

Well, TV and PlayStation has killed my imagination, so unfortunaly I can't enjoy that same feeling :(
However it does stop me from being bored, as I said in the first post.

I love it when people steal the words from meh topics. :p

Seriously, for me its that really good feeling I get whenever I finish a book I really enjoyed. It really makes me think. I think I am much smarter because of my love of reading.

Same. I think that it's a scientific fact that people who read or are read to are more intelligent than those who don't.

^Actually, it generally is.

I enjoy reading because it's interesting, and, in many cases, better than movies. Movies based on books are usually worse than the books themselves, for example, Eragon was a great book but the movie was awful. Although that was more or less worst case scenario.

I don't really think your smartness depends on the amount that you read. I think it depends on your ability to learn and to study. Of course, you have to know how to read to learn things though....
Ugh...don't even bring up that movie....that shouldn't even be counted as a movie, it should just be called "A waste of your life". But, not all book-based-movies are bad. The Lord of the Rings for example, great movies and great books.

Deadwing - I know. The Lord of the Rings triligoy and the Harry Potter movies (except for the first one) were goodd book-based movies. So was the Bourne trilogy, although the books and the movies were a lot different. It was surprising.

cbug2008 - In most cases, yes.

I've never read the books on the Bourne Trilogy. I thought the movies were good, and I always get caught up in reading other books. If I ever have time, I'll try the books out.

You should at least see the movies....they prolly won't spoil the books if what Volke said is true....how the books and movies are entirely different.

That is a good point. Eragon was a horrible movie but one of the best books I have ever read. I like how you can get more thinking out of a book and how books don't just state things, it brings scenes to life. Think of it... " He looked at the clock to check the time," is WAY worse than, "his head slowly turned as he gradually reeled in the horrible truth that he was going to be late for work and probably be fired from his job in an instant!"

I'm not sure about that.
I think the first one would have been just okay, but I get your point.

A kind of weird way that I think could be the best thing about reading would be if an author makes a typo. It makes the book more down-to-earth and make it seem like all people make mistakes. It also makes you feel as if you are smart enough to read the book and that the author is just like you.
