M3 DS Real Cheats Help?

I got a M3 DS Real from a friend who loaded the games on for me. I've been playing ACWW for a while and want to try out the cheats for it.
I click on the Cheats tab at the top and see all these unchecked cheats for the game.
I checked the ones I want and try to start the game, but the screen just turns black. So I just tried out a couple cheats and managed to enter the game. The cheats I tried were Max/Infinite Bells and Fill Out Catalog. The catalog wasn't full when I talked to Nook and I didn't have infinite bells.
On the main Config tab there is a Cheat Switch which I have set to Always On, RT Save/SpftReset (not sure what this is) so it is set to Off, Slow Motion Switch (Off) and Slow Motion Level (also off)
Is there something I am doing wrong?
I am not used to using cheats and have absolutely no clue what I am doing. Any advice whatsoever about the M3 DS Real is greatly appreciated!
