Blitzball Goalie

I recently started playing FFX again and decided to play blitzball again. However, my team is pretty decent, so I noticed that since no team can shoot on me, my goalie is only gaining 4 exp a game (2 per half). My goalie isn't bad, but he is 20 levels lower than the rest of my team. Now, I'm thinking that perhaps i can stick him at defense and just do the passing trick. Will he still gain CAT?
