Well I'll tell you where Pikachu and Raichu names are from. "Pika" is like the sound effect of electricity in Japanese, its usually used in manga and stuff. "Rai" means thunder. And "Chu" is , in Japan, the sound a mouse makes. I reckon Pikachu is a normal mouse, but raichu looks more like an upright Jerbil because of his hind legs...

igglybuff and jigglypuff im not sure about, all i know is that they are utter freaks. lol. wigglytuff is some sort of scary rabbit.

i think that mew is a mouse more than a cat. it does look a tiny bit kitten-ish but its face, feet and size are more mousey.

igglybuff and jigglypuff are inflated baloons, and wigglytuff is a rabity-baloon thing.

wigglytuff has a fit when it faints on colosseum/XD. its quite funny. ;)
