wats a good starter team

a good pokemon team i would prefer would be
charizard

articuno

vileplume

golem

alakazam

and dragonite. i hope this helped ya p.s i used dis team, it pwned the elite four :D

Best team that I've found for Fire Red- (Yeah, alot of OU Pokemon coming up but guess what? They work.)

Ditch the starter, swap for Scizor. (requires Trade, Metal Coat)
Flying pokemon- Aerodactyl
Tank-Tyrannitar (End game destroyer, love this guy)
Mixed sweeper- Dragonite
Special Specialist- Alakazam
Extra pokemon (I never need 6 for in game, so this one changes alot)
Nidoking/Electabuzz/Vaporeon/Kabutops/Arcanine or Chansey.

In all honesty, in the game against NPCs there's really no bad combination, just using what you like will get you by, even if they have bare minimum EVs and IVs, as long as they have a decent, balanced moveset. Even types don't matter if you have a move to counter the opposing type.

for me..change nidoran into a zubat..until it evolves to olbat..and when you reach the maximum happiness it will evolve into a strong and fastest creature in the kanto which is a CROBAT!!!

evolve machoke into a machamp by trading...get a haunter and evolve it into a ultimate gengar!!!

Machamp...you can also use a jynx..a nice combination of types
well i chose blastoise for the most balanced stats and killer moves!!! such as ice beam or blizzard for grass types and earthquake for elecric types!!1

I just started me a new game today. Was searching for a good starter team as I haven't played pokemon in years, after reading this thread I remembered that the best thing to do is switch pokemon as you go and catch everything you can. I always bought the magicarp from the old lady and used gyrados. It's not to bad leveling him up at that stage in the game but dragonair he was hard getting up to level 55 so he would evolve into Dragonite, up until that point he seemed rather useless. I hate that they always put the awesome Dragon Pokemon in at the later stages of the game. If you ever played gold or silver you don't get Pupitar until after the pokemon league. Then you can evolve him into the awesome Tyranitar.
