It all depends on which pokemon you want there are certain pokemon you can only catch in one game and not the other.

never mind i got both that way i can get all the pokemon that are only catchable in the two versions

You have to be able to trade between the two meaning you must have a link cable and two ds's.

Well its hard to tell which is better there both the same it depends on which kind of pokemon you want to see.

Magmar can be found on leafgreen and scyther is on firered

Also oddish is found on firered while bellsprout is found on leafgreen.
