I think they mean the chao in the memory card in the first slot of the 2 slots on your gamecube. (the one on the left)
But since I cannot afford anything, I can't really be for sure.

Slot one is the first chao in the corresponding garden, if there is no corresponding garden, and it just genreally targets a chao, it's the first in the normal garden (when you look on "Move" in the chao transporter, the first means the Top Left).

Well you can just delete it, and type in the slot 1 code in place of it...
