its good to do it during the main story because of the rewards.and no doubt your not far yet,but I think now your heading for bujerba,once your there focus on training in the mines.why am I telling you this?because your about to get a guest member so battling should be a little easier

Heh yeh I just lost my guest member :/ I'm level 13 now with Vann and Fran and Basch is 14. I've been trying to get this Nihdogg hunt done with but he is extremely hard. There wouldn't happen to be a way to get higher attack chains is there? Meaning hitting an enemy more then once.

chains are just how many monsters you defeated of the same type

Oh do kantanas do good damage? Right now I'm using Basch with sword and shield, Ashe with sword and shield, and Vann with spear.

here I go again...
give basch an axe with a siled,also give him your heaviest armor you have
give vaan a sword and a shield,either give him heavy armor or light armor your choice
if ashe is your white mage of the party then give her a bow and arrows,if she's not then try something like a katana
also remember to buy he bazaar items especially iof there bows because most of the time they give better arows

Ah thanks for the info. I just defeated Ghis and decided to come for the Ninhdog later. So have any of you guys had trouble with any particular hunt?

not really if your the right lvl you shouldent have a problem with any...anywho your about to go to the westrsand no?once there try to stay south and you will eventually find a merchent and a save crystal,stay there and train there for a while then keep going west to go into this temple(also the place where you get your first esper)

Hunt I had most trouble with was Ixion because I wasn't a high enough level, but I was determined to get the Ragnarok hahah.

That sucks I like guns.... Plus doesn't Blaither have shot he can only use with a gun... or arrow?

Ah I think I will try and find an upgrade for him before I continue. I can get Aqua Shot for him. I like guns.. it's his thing.

aqua shot is good,it boosts your gun power by three,and it has the rare water element
