Ok 1:how come the pound and persent sign doesn't come up?
2:how do i get more smilies than put at the left?

All the smilies listed on the "More" page are usable, you need to type in the shorthand for it. Like so:
That was ": rock :" without the spaces.

Still about the smilies, you can use your own ones. Whether you use Google to search and use them as images, or simply using your browser's add-ons. Like this:

As for the symbols problem, I don't believe there is anything we can do. There are several other ones (such as foreign alphabets, for example) the system doesn't recognize.

Dont know mate.
If we have them and you do then it may have something to do with your keyboard and what its programmed. If I change a command on my keyboard it brings up only weird foreign symbols in place of the comma and stuff like that.
Before I played around with mine it didnt have or @ now it does.

If you want to be able to put some of your own smilies in your post then, just do a simple copy & paste from whatever link the smiley is from, click properties, etc. If you still need further help, just ask me.

Bumping this, just because. 
I believe the percent sign has always showed up on the forums before the new layout. Then again, I actually think it was after the new forum layout when certain symbols didn't work on here.
From what I know, the percent sign and the pound (number) sign don't work.

Quite simply, the system doesn't recognize them. Even if you try to search "100*percent symbol here*", it disappears only to leave "100".
