From Scratch - V2 - Zoroark Picture

I think most of you remember the last time I tried to draw something on paper and color it in Photoshop. Didn't turn out all that great. Well, I tried it again with a different picture I drew. Still can't get it to look like Purplekecleon's watercolor art no matter how hard I try. :|

Erm, why would you think I would ask that? I hardly ever ask something like that... ;o

Anyhow, I understand that you recolored it and added some shading, but for cleaner work I still feel like you should have used your image as a reference and make the outlines with the pentool.

Overall the shading looks pretty good, nice job. The coloring isn't exactly in the lines, but for some reason there's a sort of "look" to it that makes it look good IMO.

Pentool might have worked better on this one, true. Still trying to make a style of art in which I can use the lines of the original sketch, only make them less obvious. Color outside the lines more too to give it a sloppy feel. For some reason, those tend to look better. :S

That looks really great and a lot better then I can draw.

You got me beat in the drawing, I can never draw that good.

Looks nice. You should try an anime styled shading, for example that absol signature you got. That kind of shading.

You know, if other threads in this forum got this many replies, it wouldn't be so dead...

I actually did try that style of shading one time. I could just never get it to look right. I don't know what I did wrong, but it just looked horrid.

^^ That's more of a vexel than anything else, plus it'd look a lot better if the outline was also in pentool anyhow.

...Alright, you're going to have to explain that vexel thing to me. I'm not an artistic person, so I don't know terms.

That piece is incredibly detailed with the shading, but you can see that he created layers of shapes of various colors to establish shading.

The shading is a lot less detailed (and especially the hair) but gets the job done. Still, that's a full vexel. Made entirely with the pentool (or so I would assume, he probably has a tablet), but pay attention to the shading... No brushing. ;o

But the point I was trying to get across is that type of shading probably will not look good with the sort of lines that you used in this piece.

I see. And how would I use the pentool to get that type of shading? Outline, select, then use the little pain bucket tool? After that, adjust the layers for opacity and whatnot?

Yes, exactly.

I know that when Layne and Vasco did vexels, they made shapes using the pentool... Although tbh, I have no idea what the difference is between that and what you described.

Alright. Well one last question. Should I get rid of the pencil line layer and replace it with a stroked pen tool set of lines?

I think it'd look cleaner that way, personally, but I think it looks fine as it is. It's up to you, haha.
