Essays

So, I'm in the middle of doing an essay right now. It's due a week Tuesday, or something like that. It's a 2500 word maximum essay, and I'm at around 500 - 600 words, so I'm making good progress. I picked a hard question, though, and after it I've got another two due in in about a month. Oh well, as is life. It's only really holding me back from band practice (with a band that's on the verge of breaking up) and the SuperCheats MVP competition, which I wouldn't win anyway because Forgoten_Scars is going for it.

So, I was just wondering...how do you guys go about doing essays? I'm usually a last minuter, but since they're beginning to get long (plus, in the next academic year, this time of the year will be spent on a 10,000 word dissertation) and I'm doing them all around the same time, I've decided to start a little earlier.

I prefer to work for about an hour or so, then take a nice break, and repeat a couple of times throughout the day. I get a decent amount of work done and still get to enjoy plenty of the day. It's so much better that winging it all in the last five days, like I'm used to. However, writing an essay about something I actually care about helps motivate me.

As hard as I've tried over the last few years, I just can't seem to start an essay until the day before it is due. Length is irrelevant, from 500 words all the way up to 3k. I aim to hopefully start a bit earlier next year at uni, but time will tell haha.

I prefer to sit and do them in one go right now. I'll spend maybe 15 minutes planning out the entire response and then just try gunning it over 8-14 hours. I aim for roughly 300-400 words an hour, since I always get distracted doing other things like going on facebook, youtube, pxe, reddit etc

I have found that this sem it has cost me some marks as I didn't really research overly much. Oh well haha.

It's always hard for me to get started, but once I do get to writing, I don't stop until I finish. I finished Derek's last essay in about 15-20 minutes :D

We've never been asked to write more than 500 words on a single subject, eh. I've had to write papers with more than 20 pages each several times, but they were all divided by chapters and sub-themes.

Started college this year, and I'm fairly sure even those will be gone from now on. Most of my course involves Math and Programming. I'll have to write my final thesis in four years, but I'm not exactly worried about it right now.

Im a last minuter myself but I write a novel worth of notes and then just write them up like a week before deadline XD

my method is stressful, but Im always putting things off till last minute ;_;

I start essays as soon as possible. I try and get it done as soon as possible. I haven't had any long essays as of lately, though.

I wait until the last minute, then scribble down random crap in hopes the teacher will get bored halfway through and just stop reading.

I always hated writing essays at school, especially when I was stressed out and tired.

I'm a last minuter as well. I finished a 4 page essay in two days!

I actually have two 15-page papers due in two weeks. Knowing me, I'll probably wait until Tuesday and bang them both out. They're double-spaced and 12-point font, thank God.
