Charcoal drawing

We were assigned to draw charcoal self-portraits in my art class in the chiarascuro art style. This was a fairly common style back in the renaissance and it's characterized by inky black backgrounds with strongly lit focal points.

I remember having to do something vaguely similar in my old Art class, but this is simply amazing. Beautiful composition, and the subtlety of the shading in the face compared to the harsh contrast towards the bottom really brings out the Chiaroscuro style you aimed for. Well done, man.

Thanks! I learned that you have to have stark differences between light and dark areas in order to make this work. I absolutely hated this before I put down the white charcoal.

That's really awesome. The only thing I don't like is the teeth though, they look weird. Other than that it's really really good, so realistic and everything.
