Yeah, the 5 or so people who completely left (many posted on both sites) had such a huge affect out of 100s of active members.

Well yeah, you wouldn't be able to do that. Back when there were many different forums like there are subreddits. For example that thread was on the music forum. Anyway people generally sticked to one or two forums that they liked and if they bought a new game that forum would be active too. There was also a kind of a divide between the teams people and the forums people. Teams were also once part of the forums, like one team would just be one thread.
