Should Murderers and Other Brutal Criminals Be Executed?

If I had my way, and it is proven without a doubt their actions caused the death of an innocent person then they deserve to be executed as punishment. Murderers these days know if they get caught they get sent to prison and there's a PlayStation and TV waiting for them in their cell and the chance they might get off on a technicality if the police screw up the case. This isn't exactly a deterrant, if murderers knew they would be meeting the hangman they'd think twice about killing someone.

I don't believe in the death penalty for most things but for murderers who purposely kill people I think it should happen. People who are that cold and heartless. If though, for example, someone smuggled drugs into a country with harsh penalties (death) and was a decent person that made one mistake, those people shouldn't.

And on your point about TVs and PlayStations, what is wrong with the prison system if they let inmates use them?

Inmates are there to serve a prison sentence for something they did wrong, not to have fun and game with other criminals. They should be put to work making or doing something useful for society, make their sentence so unpleasant they don't ever want to go back once they are released.

On the death penalty, I'm very glad Australia doesn't have it. Imagine if you were accused of murder and you didn't do anything wrong but were still convicted and sentenced to the death penalty. You could be kind and generous and your life could be taken from you.

There is certain parts of the world where you can leave your car door open, with the keys in the ignition and the car running and no one will steal it.

Why?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Prison hunger games. Get the worst 24 criminals every 3 months and make them fight to the death on live stream pay per view. The winner gets off death row and serves his term in a decent cell.

I doubt very much it would ever happen but it would be a brilliant deterrent lol.

Imagine the tax revenue from betting on such an event!

As long as it wasn't mass murderers against Joe who grew 3 pot plants in his back yard and is now serving 50yrs then I would be on board with that XD

Would you allow any extenuating circumstances? I.e. where would you draw the line to say the person is not only guilty but also had no good reason or an underlying cause that is not directly their fault?
The majority of murders are not random killings by sane people who have no reason to do it.

I'm not arguing for either case (I can see how the death penalty might be appropriate in some cases) but how do you decide on which crime deserves that punishment?

I feel like they should only get executed if they went on a murderous rampage.

Nobody's been hanged here since the 50s even though it became illegal to execute someone in 1989.

I'm pretty sure some Asian countries still have that type of death penalty.

The following countries still hang criminals, I must admit I was surprised to see Japan on the list. If anything I would have thought their method of capital punishment would have been the tradtional beheading with a Samurai sword: Afghanistan, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Japan.

I was surprised to find out that hanging is still legal in 3 states in the US, Washington, Delaware, and New Hampshire and it was last used in 1996.

Most of those are poor countries with governments who don't care about anyone except for themselves.

If in some Asian countries you smuggle drugs you're dead, literally.
