Power Slap

Any of you guys watch Power Slap?

I never thought I would watch something like it, but after watching their first main event and seeing so many knockouts, I am officially a fan.

Never even heard of it. Is it just people slapping each other in the face?

Pretty much. But so hard that they knock each other out.

Somewhat gruesome, but I have come to find it entertaining.

It is Dana Whites latest pet project. Max Crosby was at the first main event they held in Vegas.

I know of Power Slap through Dana White. I'm a massive fan of the UFC and Boxing. I know a lot more about those two sports than I do US football.

I've been following Boxing religiously since 1981 and the UFC when it first debuted in the early 90s and Royce Gracie won the first two events and opened the world's eyes to Brazilian Ju Jitsu.

Oddly enough, I do not watch much of Boxing or UFC.

Boxing, as a whole, seems way down of late.

My cousin loves UFC. I like watching some of the post game clips, but that is about it.

I probably watch more professional wrestling than both. I know it is scripted, but it reminds me of my younger days. Usually watch AEW over WWE, much like how I would watch WCW over WWF way back when.

Lol, I could never take Wrestling seriously, I do admit I enjoyed the days when Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, The British Bulldog, The Macho Man Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, and a few other colorful characters from that era were wrestling. I remember one guy used to bring a python into the ring, great gimmick until it bit one of the wrestlers.

Boxing is terrible now, I struggle to follow it because it annoys me. All the top boxers refuse to fight one another for whatever reason. Back in the 80s all the top boxers would face each other, these were the days of the fab four - Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, and Roberto Duran.

Same here. Honestly, when I watch wrestling nowadays, I am more about how well everything is sold and if all the moves last. We all know it is fake, but you should be able to not miss moves and make it interesting.

Yeah, I could not tell you any boxer these days. I know Paciao is gonna fight another match, but he is about all I know.

Manny Pacquiao was a beast several years back, past his best now.

Boxing used to be fun to follow back in the 80s and 90s, fights were always on free TV and you could watch boxers careers develop. Now to watch a championship fight you are looking at $60 to get pay per view. I personally won't pay it, the only boxer I ever paid to watch was Mike Tyson. I used to have to get up 4am in the morning to see his fights live from Las Vegas. He was worth every penny when he was in his prime.

Tyson was definitely worth it. Dude was a powerhouse.

Pay per view as a whole now is difficult to pay, especially when there are so many streaming services. No one wants to pay $50-$60 for something that should be $10-20.

I don't understand why pay per view is so expensive now. It's getting to the point only clubs and bars can afford it. It's ruined Boxing, that's for sure, people have stopped following the sport as they cannot watch the progress of a fighter once they reach the champioship level.

I have noticed that kids are more into MMA than boxing these days. Buy even that is pay per view if you want to see the top fights on the bill.

I do not get why they do not just deal with streaming providers to air the bigger cards. That, or make PPVs less expensive. Better to have more people purchase at lower cost than a select number at a premium price.

Well, think about it for a second. Let's say an event costs $50 and 2 million people buy it (which would already be a top 5 all-time number). If you lower it to $10, are 10 million people going to buy it? That's a ton of households. If not, you've lost money.

That's why they don't do deals with the streaming providers for most live sports - the cost the providers take on would make the monthly cost for a lot of users just too high.

I understand. But how many people are really gonna spend that type of money on a PPV? I cannot name any boxer or fighter worth it rn.

Preaching tot he choir, brother. I've never paid for a PPV and never will - if I ant to watch something that bad I'll find a sketchy website or something.

I remember one night a buddy and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings and it happened to be a UFC night - they were charging a $20 cover charge to get in. Laughed and walked right out.

There just is no fighter that I would pay that type of money for. I considered Mayweather/Paciao, but I decided not to since both were already past their primes. Nothing since. lol

My cousin is big into that Jones UFC fight though. I think he has purchased every last one of his championships.

The problem is down the line when the fighters are unknown to the general public because they have not been televised on their accent up the rankings. Then nobody will pay to see it except the die hard fans who have to stump up a lot of money. During the 80s and 90s for example boxing was on natioinal TV every week, so you could follow the careers of your favorite fighters.

Completely agree. Plus, there would big names back then. There has been no one of name since Mayweather.

You are 100% correct Warrior13, not one boxer aside from Canelo has in my eyes attained superstar status and become a household name since Mayweather.

I follow boxing closely and I've never seen the pound for pound best boxer in the world fight. Some Japanese guy called Naoya Inoue whos is known as the Japanese Monster. It's crazy, during the 80's and 90's before they became big names you could watch pound for pound kings like Roy Jones and Oscar De La Hoya free. Even Mayweather before his breakthrough fight against De La Hoya.

Then everyone wonders why boxing is dying. It's simple, it's because you can't see the best boxers perform without spending big money.

So true man. Last boxing I watched was free on ESPN when Paciao got screwed by the Judges against that Australian kid.

Last I heard, Pacquiao was making a run to become the president of the Philippines. It's remarkable really that the guy has gone from being very poor, to boxing superstar, to a senator for his country.
