The light stick is behind a SimEating plant. You have to get close enough to the plant to get sucked in, then mash the A button really fast until the plant flops down. Run behind the plant and pick up the glowing light stick. You will pull it out automatically when you enter the cave.
You don't defeat the albino crocboy, you just talk to him with the light in your pocket. He's actually quite nice.
