This is a problem many games have. The inability to make a file for each person in your family. On a stationary system you can just use different memory cards. but you can't do that with a DS.

there is one way if you have action replay ds max you can save files onto that and make a new file

If this was for GBA, you could upload the save file to your PC using Gameshark SP, and then make a new file. I accidently erased my game a couple weeks ago, and I seriously regretted it because I had to start from Square 1.
Almost an 8 year member! beat that
