To coach... believe it or not, I favour Tom's approach. Get in there now and ask her out, before you lose your chance. If things don't work out... well, make sure you avoid a messy break-up and it'll be by no means the end.
Or you could remember that I have virtually no experience in this area and thus anything I say is purely theoretical. But then, I sincerely doubt most other people posting here have much more experience to their names.

Notes just come across as cowardly, childish or all of the above, unless there's something truly romantic about the note which I doubt is going to happen in a teenage relationship.
