I just used Curaja to heal my characters I had it set to be used at 40% and if I needed to I changed it to 60% instead. I only used Elixers and other items if really needed them especially near the end of the battle.

Yeah its was even hard just to get to Gilgamesh for the 2nd fight it didn't help that I ran into that Disma rare game.
