PS2 won't run god of war

I borrowed god of war from a friend and my ps2 won't run the game. After i go to browser and insert the game, it says reading disk at the bottom of the screen for a couple of seconds and then it dissapears, is there any special settings i have to run my ps2 on to play god of war?

ya same with me, not with god of war though. it happens to me with other games, and dvds, but i usally take them out, wipe or whatever, try again. i think our Playstation 2s are getting old, urrrr i really dont wanna spend all that cash for ps3, oh while talking about the ps3, can it play ps2 games? and use ps2 memory cards, cuz i got alot of games with lots of saved data
