You can by this eventually in the game but, if your like me and trying to raise an unbelievable amount of coins. This is just for you. On any level with a cliff, or a hole to fall down. Fall down the cliff/hole, watch your hearts (before you explode) and they'll go empty. Drop out when this happens. Timing is perfect but when your character comes back, they shouldn't have any hearts at all.
