Hi!

I have a few questions about the stats of a pokmon. Attack is for normal and fighting moves only, as far as I know. If it's not true, tell me!
Defence is of course how good a pokmon can resist these moves.

Special attacks are all the other types. Fire, water, grass, etc...
Sp. def. is of course how good a pokmon can resist special attacks.

Another questions is that can you raise one special stat more than others. For instance, let's ay I have a Tyranitar. I want to raise its special attack by training it. How? I read somewhere that if you battle pokmon with a higher defence than the pokmon you're using it will gain more defence... I hope you can help me!

Attack is also for Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, and Steel. Sp. Attack is everything else. I never really heard of that technique. I would say to use many Carbos or other stat-bosting items.

props to pokemonruler for the sweet sig and avatar

ah, youve come to the right place huge loser...

Attack=Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, and Steel.

Sp.at=Grass, Water, Fire, Ice, Dark, Dragon, Electric, and Psychic.

now...
that training technique you heard about is called ev training (effort value training)
each pokemon you battle earns you ev.points, if you defeat a pokemon with high defence, that pokemon may give out upto 3 points in defence...
some weeker pokemon such as caterpie and stuff only give out 1 ev.point
some pokemon gice out ev.points for two different types

when you have battled 4 golems for example, which give out three ev.points for defence, when you level up, then your pokemon has 12 points in defence, so youll get 3 stats for your evs as well as the normal bass average level up stats (bass stats)
so if your pokemon usually goes up 1 in defence, it will probably go up 3 or 4 instead because of your effort values...

you can read all about evs here...

you can from there go to lists which show you what pokemon give out what ev points...

im pretty sure it does, because when you use rare candies, you dont get ev training points and your pokemon become weeker, and that happens on gold/silver, so there must be ev training on gold/silver

Yeah, I've noticed that too...
Do you know any ideal places to train if you want to raise the defence of an electric pokmon? I know Geodudes and Gravelers at Mt. Silver would be perfect, but as I said - I'm training an electric.

To raise the sp. defence of a pokmon I train in the waters around Whirl Islands. Tentacool, Tentacruel and Mantine are some of the pokmon who give ev. points in sp. defence. But again... I need a place where I can raise the defence...

I asked the same question on serebii and they told me that EV training doesn't apply for gold/silver versions. And I guess they know what they're talking about! You can only gain stat exp. and not EV pts.

I have also noticed that no matter how many Tentacools, Tentacruels or Mantines I battled the amount of points I gained weren't boosted.
