When FR/LG came out, Ash went back to the battle frontier which was in Kanto. So he had an excuse to roam Kanto, again. Do you think at the end of the DPPt saga, he's going to Johto? Honestly, I'd like to see Ash be replaced by Jimmy, who's a pretty cool gyu, if I say so myself.

I don't really care about the anime anymore, I only ever watch the new movie when it comes on Cartoon Network. I don't even like it, I disgusts me. Plus it creates negative stereotypes for the games, people always believe it's all that 'Oh, I wuv you Pikachu' nonsense. But they probably will so oh well.
