To evolve you need to recruite Diagla, Piakla, and Manaphy after the credits role.

To beat Darkrai, get a lot of reviver seeds and oran/sitrus berries. That's what I did and I beat him on my first try.

Manaphy auto join, so it doesn't count. Some people said that you only have to recruit Palkia to be able to evolve.
