I'm not sure about Ruby and Sapphire but I do know that in GSC, if you use the infrared on top of the GBC, you both get a free gift

It allows you to receive some gifts from your friends somehow. Not sure how though. I don't even know if it's in Ruby/Sapphire, but in Emerald (the one I have) you must fill in the questionnarre in the Pok� Marts.

yeah it is in ruby/sapphire.you go to the guy that says some\thing about your profile and you put "mistery event is amazing" of something.

Mystery Event lets you do special Nintendo events. The bonus disk for
Poke'mon Colisseum is a fine example. You go to Mystery Event on your Gameboy and then link it with the gamecube. It also lets you get mew at Toys R' Us every Sept. 30.

No. There is an E-Reader card that lets you battle trainers behind that door. Thats why it is locked you must have an appropriate e-reader card
