How do you get a specific Chao?(Hero, Dark, etc.) What's the diff between egg colours? And how do you plant seeds?

Raise a Chao w/Hero or Dark Characters for either Hero or Dark, or both Characters for Neutral.
Egg Colors mean nothing, but if you breed a Shiny-Yellow Chao with a Gold Chao, it will be invisible.
To plant seeds, a Chao must win the Beginner Races with the prizes: Shovel, and Watering Can. Then buy a Seed and give it to that Chao.

exactly how do you get the prizes on the beginner game. every time i play them they win but they dont get any prizes.

You have to press the control stick to the right. It puts you in lvl 2, then u win that, then u go to lvl 3 , when u win lvl 3, u get a prize.
