in any mario game i always start out with mario. basic moves and shared stats. then u can learn to be anything around him. i went from mario first then link when i first played
Try Metaknight! beginers think hes cheap cause if u hold down A u can only hit with a ranged attack. bu hes not cheap. although hes no ranged attacks all his specials double as recovery moves (prety much) and with no skill he can easily beat any beginer. with a good start like that u will have no trouble catching the more advanced players! hope this helps
How could I have forgotten Meta Knight? Yeah Meta Knight is one of the eaier to master characters to start out with. Plus he's fun to use.
Or go with what K Dawg said and just pick whatever charcater you know from nintendo or whichever is your favorite, you tend to get good with whoever you play with the most.
Play Marth over Ike if you even want to consider Ike.
And as a response to the " Ike can kill at 40%" lots of characters have that ability. Toon Link can KO at 17% with his d smash. A sweet spot side smash for Marth without charging kills at 40% to 60%. All of the other heavy characters can obviously KO at low %s. Lucas has the most knockback with his up smash, killing Jiggs uncharged at merely 28%. Zelda's up air kills at 60% or lower with a good hit. Snake has incredible knockback with regular combos.
So lawlz Ike. You are treating him like the only character with low % KO abilities. Not to mention, any successful edge guarding and spiking will KO.
Sig and Avy made my me!!! Brawl FC is 3394-4531-4018
There is no character for beginners. Just pick a character you get a feel for who your naturally good with. Like i'm naturally good with Olimar. Forcing yourself to be good with characters your not makes you fail.

Im just throwing in to the jigglypuff part that Jiggles can be thrown around with the slightest ease because, well it just can. I mean when in Melee, its Shield breaks, it sends it flying to death. If that still works in here, Jigglypuff is no different from Melee then he is Brawl. Anyhow, im not disagreeing here, but still. =D
Oh and also, it turns out, If you get a Weavile from a Pokeball, on a rare occasion, Weavile can kill your opponent while only doing 1% damage when they have 0% done to them. (ask bowser in my match with no strings attached. He was sent Flying to death when he got hit by weavile.) D=
Anyhow, it really isnt who is good for you, but how you control your character, and how well you can brawl someone. Like me for example, I suck at fighting, because im a stage builder. ^^ Which is also why i refuse to brawl people. Cervy is the most recent, and i proved to him in just a stage builder But yeah, Rich, Its how you can control your characters for Brawl. and what controller your used to. Like me and the Nun Chuck.
Thanks for the tips guys ... I've tried out so for Mario and Fox, they seem ok, but I have to admit half the time there is so much going on on the screen I don't know what is going on!
Still getting to grips with the controls, but yeah the game is ok.
Edit :: Just tried Meta Knight - He rocks... But I'm not sure I how I do the Final Smash or what is supposed to happen... I'm just using the standard wii controller with no nunchuk.
