Metaknight has been rated by the professionals to easily be the best character in the game.
But since this is a favourites thread, I'm going to say Metaknight and Marth, my old favourite from Melee. Pit's not bad, but the others are all pretty poor.

New swordsmen: We like Ike!
I don't really know why, he's rally slow, which is weird because I usually use fast characters. But his counter is just cheap enough to make up for that. His B attacks are pretty good too.

I'm gonna have to go with Metaknight mostly because he's fast and, if you use him right, deal out a whole lot of punishment.
