The people in the US that had it were actually in Mexico which is why they caught it. (apparently) Those in the private school were probably the ones that went to Cancun for Spring Break. So the next time you think lucky sod Im just going to Florida again....thank your lucky stars.
The flu vaccine is fine, but as far as Im aware it will only protect you from one strain of the illness. With loads of different strains around youre still at risk of catching flu.
Its awful really as its now killed 108 people I think it said on the news. But they dont know which of the deaths were linked to this new Swine Flu and which werent. Id say know where youre meat is coming from just incase youre eating infected meat..yuk
I think theyre also thinking of quaranting the country so no one comes in or out. Yikes..that would scare the crap out of me to be quite honest. I have also heard that there has been one registered case here in Spain. (not suprising really) But the health service should be adequent enough to knock it on the head. Which is why I think the USA cases arent being seen as anything else as mild. (patients healing without hospitalisation) Whereas Mexico are suffering big time. As far as I am aware not everyone can get the same medical care. Obviously alot of what im saying is merely speculation, however, what isnt speculation on my part is.
over 100 deaths in Mexico People affected in the USA have had ties with Mexico (ie visted recently) 1 reported case in Spain 1 in Scotland (I read in one article) The only reported deaths are in Mexico only.
I wouldnt panic just yet...unless youve been to Mexico recently. And still dont panic. If you start with flu like symptoms..find a mask (something to cover nose and mouth) and get yourself to the hospital or your docs.
Coachcline...That bug is probably just one of the flu strains. If you see aload of reporters and cameras in masks...worry. (the newer flu strain before this Swine one was Flu with vomiting.
Thanx to Craizen for the sig, love ya babe, Hubby for the avi.
Anyways this a map of google with all the infections. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=p&msa=0&msid=106484775090296685271.0004681a37b713f6b5950&ll=32.639375,-110.390625&spn=15.738151,25.488281&z=5
The disease will not be dead in a week. The number of cases in Australia doubled to ten and there's already 56 people being tested in NZ. Mexico's rate continues to grow and same in all other countries with reported cases.
I once again draw comparisons to the Spanish Influenza. Same symptoms and both from the H1N1 flu strain. It's also killing people with mostly healthy immune systems just like the Spanish Flu.

It's not a Pandemic. There are like 40 people of the roughly 300,000,000 people of the US that are currently infected. This is more like a small outbreak, or an epidemic. If we survived the Black Death, we can survive this. It's an Epidemic in Mexico, because they have more than a thousand cases and many people have already died. Here in Ohio, we have ONE confirmed person infected with it. One. There is one other pending case, but seriously, this is not a Pandemic.
88 Australians infected. I'm not saying that humanity won't survive this or anything, I'm just saying that with the cases in Mexico and other cases rising quickly in other countries it's got the potiential to be a real pain for us.

I just heard on the news - The claim of 152 deaths has dropped to seven directly related to the virus. I guess most of the other deaths were unrelated and simply from different causes.
Woot. Looks like it isn't so crappy after all.

Originally I was severely concerned because of the closeness to the 1918 flu epidemic but the mortality rate is so low I don't think it's a problem. There are thousands of cases in Mexico but only 7 deaths have been confirmed to be caused by the Flu. In all the developed countries people recover mostly without hospital treatment.

heh, this thread reminds me of the game Pandemic on Addictinggames.com. good game. bad topic of the game.
im kinda worried about it since my entire school band is going on a feild trip to new york this weekend, where it was sighted. then again, it isnt that bad. it isnt a pandemic... yet.
heres a little fun fact: in israel, it isnt called the swine flu because pigs arent kosher to jews. instead, its called the mexican flu.
Well, I just read an article on this, this morning. I heard that there have been about 100 reported cases in the United States. So...that means 100 people, out of 304 million, have the Swine Flu virus. Yup, sounds like a pandemic to me ;)
But, if you have some type of cold/flu, and your throat is sore, it is NOT the Swine Flu. A sore throat isn't one of the effects of the Swine Flu.
it isn't transmitted from pigs anymore and is passed on from human to human, i don't have to worry about the infected meat on my part, im vegetarian, but anyway i have (had) an Australian buddy i frequently chat to on yahoo or googlemail and one day i said hi to him and his mum said kevin is dead from that swine flu.
if you ask me Mexicans brought us nachos and stuff but we did not deserve this.
in my view pigs should never have existed.
