OK I've just beaten Vermilion City gym. Here is my team:
Charmeleon level 27
Cut
Smokescreen
Ember
Metal Claw
Pikachu level 26
Thundershock
Quick attack
Slam
Thunderbolt
Weepinbell level 22
Vine Whip
Poisonpowder
Stun Spore
Sleep Powder
Pidgeotto level 20
Tackle

- butterfly and beedrill... well one of these 2 will be going if you decide to get a water poke in place of them, and as i recall they aint too good at synergizin... butterfree is normali used for status warfare with compound eyes, while beedrill is used for offense... both are hard to use without a decent team that was planned and built around them (or build for them to complement) either way though, having both on a team makes the team a bit dodgy...
- pikachu to raichu... well if you're lucky enough to get a lightball you'd keep your pikachu instead... but seeing as its your first one... and their rarity at this stage of the game... you have no alternatives to a stronger elec poke until the power plant opens up (unless i'm forgettin something...)
- weebell/vicabell... weird set, but eventuali you'll abandon it for an offensive set... like a sunny beamer etc... (since u've got charizard, let him sunny day instead =D your choice)
- water pole ... you don't have to if you can demonstrate how you're capable to over come pokes that are potentiali vulnerable to water types by using this team... etc, and type matching isn't exactli the most important aspect of the game... it's a basic no doubt, but yeah... don't listen to mani of those "you need a ground/steel/wat ever pokemon on your team" ... to prove my point, their arguments are almost always "what if your opponent uses a dark type? psychic types are doomed >. starmie but not like u can get that now... you could get a poliwhirl -> wrath by the time ya get to celadon... but yeah

well they can have sapphire and ruby, uh lemme see u dont really need fly for charizrd he can get a way good moveset later and take off flash for raichu take off hyper beam for vaporeon and fwank can add the movesets if he wants too

yea those are the exact lvs so you can evolve machop to machoke later while a tip is:go to safari zone and catch yourself a venomoth.it should know psybeam then train it as high as your charizard and you should have little problems.

Thanks for the info mate but I already beat Koga. Kadabra learnt Psychic and I beat him easy. oh yeah I got Machoke but he didn't turn out so great so I dropped him for a Gastly which is now a Haunter and my highest level pok�mon. I might drop Victreebell because he doesn't even have Razor Leaf yet, he's weak and he's falling behind.

I WOULD get all three starter pok�mon but I don't know anyone who lives near me that has this game and I don't have FR. I always get all three in Gold and Silver though.
