Germany 4 vs Costa Rica 2
Lahm 6'........Wanchope 12' 73'
Klose 17' 61'
Frings 87'

The match started to kick off the World cup 2006 in style with a 6 goal thriller. Both defences were poor and Germany were the team to capitalise.
The match kicked off and 6 minutes later Lahm opened the scoring with a dazzler from the edge of the box angling sweetly into the top right corner to put the tournaments hosts in front.
It didnt take long for the underdogs Costa Rica to equalise capitalising on slack defending sending Jens Lehman the wrong way after the nice through ball reached Paulo Wanchope.
5 minutes later the germans took the lead once again due to dreadful defending by Costa Rica and Klose had a tap in at the far post, he then added his second of the competition after his header was parried by the goalkeeper, and he was the first to react thumping it in the roof of the net.
Wanchope then gave Costa Rica hope in the 73rd minute, while Jens Lehmann the German Goalkeeper, reacted strangly when the ball passed him on the way to the net, this seemed to make German number 2 goaly Oliver Kahn smile as he looked for hope at regaining his number 1 spot in surely his last international competition.
As Costa Rica looked and searched for the unlikely equaliser Frings had other ideas, he walloped the ball from a good 35 40 yardsmaking the ball swerve visously away from the goaly into the corner of the goal.
Two contenders for goal of the competition already and only 1 game played.
Both defences were slack and if it was a better team than Costa Rica then in my opinion the german defence would have been slaughtered by 3 or 4 goals!

Poland 0-2 Ecuador
...........Tenorio 24' Delgado 80'

The poles started off slightly the better side as they looked to defeat Ecuador, who had other ideas.

The ecuadorian defence stood strong throughout the match frustrating the polish attack.

24 minutes in and Ecuadors Tenorio broke the deadlock, nodding passed the goalkeeper into the net.

The match went on with Poland attacking them with everything and Ecuador hitting them on the counter, which finally proved worthy when they broke off with lovely passing all the way to 6 yards away from goal when the former southampton striker Delgado had an easy tap in.

Poland then hit the post with 3 minutes left but all was lost and they have to regroup for there next match against Germany in 4 days time, they have to win both there remaining games to realistically stay in the tournament

England 1-0 Paraguay

England were looking to get a win in there first match of the world cup campaign while Paraguays aim for the match was to not lose.

England scored inside 3 minutes with a goal which hasnt been decided who scored, David Beckham hit a wonderfully placed free kick that deflected off a defender and hit the net.

England looked good throughout the first half with Paraguay causing no problems for England except the for the last minute of the first half when Tevez struck at goal but i missed but not by far.

The second half was strange; dodgy desisions by Sven Goren Erikson to sub Owen for Downing, which proved to be a poor desision, the ball hitting the TV at the roof when the ball was kicked from Paul Robinsons hands, however the ref gave the ball to Paraguay...
While im talking about the referee, his performance was poor bad desisions throughout the game, for example Downing getting taken out Crouch everytime he touched the ball and when someone went to the side to take a drink of water when the game had stopped he stopped them, even though it was 30 plus degrees.

Trinindad & Tobago 0-0 Sweden

Although the scoreline suggests a nil nil bore draw its wrong, it was nil nil but it sure wasnt a bore draw.
Trinindad didnt stop running throughout the game they had so much energy and wanted something from the game so badly.
They are the smallest nation to ever qualify for tyhe world cup and have earned my respect.
They even were down to 10 men with just 30 seconds of the second half as their left back was sent off for a second bookable offense.
T&T hit the bar with 20 minutes to go, and from then on it was all Sweden basically as they pushed and pushed for the winner to not be embarrassed but Shaka Hislop the 37 yr old goalkeeper played an astonishing game, even though he was not meant to play.
Jaques and Shaaban the two 1st team goalkeepers were both rejected by Brighton 1 year ago, shows the ability of the manager.
When the final whistle went the T&T fans pllayers and staff went beserk like they won the cup.
Well done T&T
