I have my physics master friend calaculate the exact trajectory of the diamond and the coordinates of where it landed, then just go there and retrieve it.

Since I am a wizard, I know all about magic, and know exactly how to retrieve the diamond, so I simply do so. I then put an invisibility spell on the diamond and hide it in my magic pouch, which only I can open.
