My fishy Catherine, she keeps going belly up in her tank. She floats to the top and then she stays there and after a while wriggles around and goes down, only to do it again. What do I do? HELP!

get Ben and tell him, for one.

For another, have you fed him, recently?

I have told Ben but he doesn't know what to do.

I fed her this morning like I always do... She is over three years old, do you think it might be her time to go?

BTW, I called the pet shop and they said it may be a bladder problem and fish usually die from that.

Well, it may just be a bladder issue. And, if so, I'm sorry to say that it just may be her time. How old is ben, 17? Is that the driving age in australia? If so, call the pet shop and ask if there is some sorta emergancy medicine that can be given to help relieve pain or something. If so, have Ben pick it up.

Unless it's the swim bladder with the problem, then I'm sorry, I don't really know what to do.

And smack Ben upside the head for not only me, but you. I've always wanted to do that.

Well, Ben's at work so he can't get it and I'm not wandering around town on my own in this area at this time. Mum says that She'll get me anti-bacteria solution tomorrow to go in the water.

I've had her for three years so it'll be hard to lose her. I love her. What else is there to do?

honestly, I haven't the faintest clue what time it is by you.

It could be a water temperature issue, possibly. Is it what it should be? Or even, a food issue. did you feed her the same food you usually feed her, or something else? Or, even, has that food expired, yet?

Well, the water temp should be the same... I fed her the same thing as always... hang on while I check the expiry date...

it doesn't have one. I'm really getting scared though.

calm down, flii. It's best to do these things whilst calm.

Did you get the food from the same pet shop? If so, maybe you could call them up and possibly ask for the expiration date. It's a slim chance, but it may just work.

oh wow, that fish is beautiful.

I'm doing my best to find something online, but I'm not coming up with much of anything.

I'm sorry to say this, but it does look like it's her time. she may just last long enough for tomorow when your mother gets the antibacterial solution.

I will keep looking, though.

And don't worry. even if it is her time, don't think about what will happen, but all the best memories you had with her. Think positively.

she's still alive, but only just. she is kind simply staying there, hardly moving. i just hope that she is going to be ok. i'm afraid that perhaps it can't wait until tomorrow.

well, Flii, the best I could really tell you is to remain calm.

and I'm sorry, but I could not find anything online dosease-wise that relates to this.

I pray that all that's needed is the anitbacterial solution.

Good luck, Flii. I'm sorry, but it's almost 3 AM by me. It's getting late enough, as is. Good luck and don't worry. She'll be alright. :-)

Check for any white spots on her. It's a common sickness in fish.

Just overfeeding the fish can cause it to go belly up, lots of people throw fish away that are still perfectly healthy, try not feeding it for a day or so and see if it makes any difference.
Let me be the first to congratulate you on witnessing pure perfection!
